Ticket Information for the 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah

The 94th PGA Championship will be held on Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course on August 9-12, 2012. The PGA Championship is the fourth and final major of the year on the PGA Tour and will be the biggest golf tournament to ever come to South Carolina.

Information on tickets for the event was made available earlier this week and patrons will need to act fast and stay up-to-date in order to get them. Due to the geography and topography of the venue and to make sure every patron gets a decent viewing experience, the total number of spectators will be limited to approximately 27,000 per day. By comparison, last year’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine Golf Club had more than 44,000 spectators on its busiest day. A lot of those 27,000 tickets will go to corporate sponsors and weekly passes so only 8,000 tickets will be available as daily passes. Weekly passes (which include 3 days of practice rounds) cost $450 and daily passes for the 4 tournament rounds will cost $90.

Tickets go on sale November 15, 2010 but you’ll need to register online first in order to even have a chance at purchasing tickets. You can get more information on the official tournament site or just check out their Frequently Asked Questions page

The Ocean Course was designed by legendary golf architect Pete Dye and hosted the Senior PGA Championship in 2007 and the Ryder Cup in 1991. It is a public course so anyone can set up a tee time and play it. Green fees run from $250-$350 depending on the time of year. I was fortunate enough to play their twice and it’s an unforgiving and brutally difficult course made even harder by the constant ocean breezes. But it sure is pretty out there.
