Congrats Paula!

Amidst the World Cup Final and all the LeBron hoopla, you probably missed Paula Creamer win the Women’s US Open over the weekend. It was a gritty performance as Paula had missed a substantial part of the season with a career threatening thumb injury. She hasn’t played much this year and the injury forced her to limit her practice time, all of which are bad ingredients to a winning US Open recipe.

Making the situation more dramatic was the fact that Paula had come close to winning the US Open twice before. She was in the final group on Sunday in two recent Opens only to falter both times. She was able to remain poised throughout the final round this year on a brutal Oakmont Country Club course.

My fondness for Paula is well documented on this here blog so it was great to see a talented, dedicated, and passionate athlete win a career-defining tournament in such a gritty and determined way.
