Waimea Canyon

My Kauai vacation took me to Waimea Canyon the other day. Called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep. The drive up the canyon road has a 4,000 foot elevation rise and is just over 18 miles one way. It got a little dicey at times with the winding roads but oh so worth it. First two pictures are from the main Waimae Canyon Lookout. The second picture has Waipo’o Falls in the distance. The third picture was taken from Pu’u Hinahina lookout which I thought was the best view of the canyon. The last shot from Pu’u o Kila Lookout was supposed to be of the Kalalau Valley looking out towards the ocean and the Na Pali Coast. Unfortunately we ran into the cloud canopy so I had to improvise to get a picture.
