April Anarchy

Forget March Madness. Except for that Villanova game, this year’s tournament has been a predictable snoozefest. The women’s NCAA tournament actually has a better storyline with the UConn Huskies attempting to go undefeated throughout the regular season and tournament. If bball ain’t your thang, then fear not, as this month has plenty of exciting sports events coming up. Here’s a quick rundown.

nhlNHL Playoffs
The NCAA tournament is cool and all, but one game per round? C’mon that’s pretty weak. The NHL does it right with a best of 7 game series for 4 grueling rounds. Playoff hockey is some of the most entertaining and intense sports you can watch.  Keep up to date on the standings and potential playoff matchups as the regulars season winds down.

masters1Masters
Monday begins Masters week, the most glorious week of the year for avid golf fans. Phil Mickelson has won twice already this year, Padraig Harrington has won the last two majors, and Tiger is back ready to pounce after a thrilling victory at last week’s tournament. Things are shaping up for a memorable Masters.

stingrayssmallCharleston StingRays
Your very own Charleston StingRays capped off another successful regular earlier this week. They open their playoff campaign on April 9 against the Charlotte Checkers on the road. They will return home to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday, April 14.

worldcupWorld Cup Qualifying
The US men’s soccer team defeated Trinidad & Tabago last evening 3-0 to remain undefeated in the early stages of World Cup Qualifying. You may have notice a bunch of soccer scores on the ESPN ticker lately as all 6 regions have begun their first round of qualifying matches.

lpgaKraft Nabisco Championship
The first major of the LPGA season is this weekend out at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. Lorena Ochoa hopes to defend her title which includes a diverse mix of young stars and wily veterans. Hopefully at least one of my favorite lady golfers will be in contention this weekend.
