Shouldn’t We Expect More For Our Money?

No, this post isn’t about the proposed bailout or financial crisis gripping the nation. There is enough coverage and blog rants about that. I’m talking about Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden and his enormous $1.83 million salary — $295,000 of which comes from you and me the taxpayer. This makes Tommy Bowden one of the highest paid state employees just behind some doctors, world-class researchers, and scholars. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems if we are going to invest this much money into Tommy Bowden, shouldn’t we expect more? It seems that money could be put to much better use then another 4 or 5 loss season and Peach Bowl birth.

It’s not all about game day, practicing, and Xs and Os. I understand recruiting is a huge part of a head coaching job and Tommy Bowden has done well in this arena by recruiting some very talented players that would have often gone to higher profile programs. But it’s getting the most out of these players were Bowden fails and were we should expect more for our hard earned money.
