I ventured out to the Isle of Palms on Thursday afternoon to witness the huge swells that were a result of category 4 Hurricane Earl passing within 300 miles of Charleston. The IOP surf report pegged the waves at 6-7 feet. Most waves were around this range but a few were noticeably higher with faces easily approaching 10 feet plus. There were hundreds of surfers out there and most knew what they were doing, but there were still a lot of rough looking wipeouts.
