Facebook’s Album Art Design Challenge

There are a lot of memes floating around Facebook these days. The most popular of them is probably the 25 Random Things About Me. I’ll admit that was pretty entertaining and I found myself reading a good bit of them and filled one out myself. The popularity of that one spawned a bunch of others that weren’t nearly as cool. There was that one where you had to answer like 40 questions but could only use one-word answers. And then there was that Name Game one which was pretty annoying. I mean really, nobody cares what your pr0n star or rapper name is.

A new and very unique meme came my way over the weekend and it’s fantastic. It’s called the Album Art Design Challenge. It does require a little Internet research via Wikipedia and Flickr as well as some quick Photoshopping but the point is to follow the specific directions to come up your fictitious band name, album title, and cover art. The directions are posted below along with the results of my Album Art Design Challenge. The two others below it are from some Facebook friends of mine who also completed the challenge. It should only take about 20 minutes. It is good fun and the results are surprisingly believable. I’ve posted some more recent album art designs here.

To participate…

1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 – Post it to FB with this text in the “caption” and TAG the friends you want to join in. (you can untag yourself if you don’t want this photo up)
